It is the weekend after Mother's Day so I'm racing the Longneck Regatta at Lake Canyon Yacht Club!  Many
thanks to Barbra Manning for doing registration even though Tom had taken a bad fall on his bike days before.
Roger Poe came down from Longview,Texas to run race committee with Betty Reeh, Kathleen H. Acquart, and
Sherry  Morris from the Dallas area.

Saturday we had  wind of about 17 mph and gusts that were much higher all day long.
First race was twice to A Mark. the F 18's were little late to the start line and you could not really tell at first who was racing and who was still getting to the line.
Second start was Portsmouth. Drew Riddle
and Stephen Acquart were on Hobie 17's, Michelle Rathkamp & Arron on a Hobie 16' with Mark Biscotto & Jim Cato on a Nacra 6-O.  The windward mark was set by Charlie Mayer, Joe Monosmith, and Mark Ashburn from Las Vegas. Mark was working in San Antonio and generously came to help us out and have a good time.
Somehow Jim Rehage & Rick both managed to fall of their F18  boat and watch it sail away.

As the pin boat with Roger Acquart & Ralph Spearman picked the up the wayward skipper & crew. John Tomko & Jonathan went after the still sailing boat and managed to stop it from running ashore on the rocks.  They then both single handed the boats back to the the pin boat and the   grateful Jim & Rick. That was a lot of money sailing to it's doom. Then they all got the boats in order  and proceeded to race the next race. I do not think any of the F 18 boats went over, but I know Michelle & Arron went over before the start of racing and I know the 6-O went over the racing.

Drew was dominating all the Portsmouth races except the one where Stephen lead the way on two laps and then to the finish line. Unfortunately the race course was THREE times to A mark! Michelle & Arron followed Stephen and lost out on that race also.
All the time we were racing out on the water Terry Tomko was cooking up the Brisket, sausage, rice and fixing at the Yacht Club with his helpers. Joe Monosmith brought down his beans from the house and dinner was set to start at p.m. as advertised.  While we were waiting, drinking and telling our war stories, Jim Casto brought out British cheese and chips with apples!
After we sailors and friends ate all we could eat. We started on the deserts brought by the fleet members. Cakes, cookies and lots more. Then Terry brought out Turtle Ice cream and had to urge us to eat more.

Then it was time for the “Famous Longneck Raffle” out on the patio. Ron Wreyford had generously donated more crowd pleasing give aways than we could pass out. Kids were given squirt guts, toys and other neat stuff. Hats were thrown to the crowd and lots of Spurs stuff also. Now Stephen & Joe had them ready for the raffle. Note Steve Piche (Great Texas 300) always buys lots of raffle tickets  and manages to win most of the liquor. He does not just win it and take it home, nooooooo he makes every body partake of his booty! So the raffle gets a little rowdy. He does this every year! When he leaves the bottles are empty and anybody willing to partake has had some of his liquor. We had lots of items to raffle off and along with the giveaways no one went away  empty handed!  Many thanks to fleet members and Ron for all the raffle items.

Sunday came too soon, but we were able to blunt that morning after feeling with a free breakfast cooked up by Terry and his team. I went for oatmeal & fruit and lots of orange juice. It is really nice to eat your supper & breakfast at a table inside away from the wind.
Two races today with plenty of wind and no turnovers ,I think.  After eating some left overs and a special dip made by Betty Reeh. Trophy's were presented to all the workers and the winners.
